I was born
in 1957 in Poland. My father was a painter and my mother
a window dresser and designer. My uncles were also
artists.
I attended the Warsaw High School of Art , but most of my skills I owe to my family. They helped me acquire my taste for painting, drawing and sculpting and later influenced me greatly as a sculptor. We spent hours discussing art and exchanging points of view. I’m very fortunate to be an artist!. I’ve been a professional sculptor since 1983. In the early years of my career I worked in the woodwork workshop of Tomasz Olszewski, conservating, renovating and reconstructing works of art. During this period I also got involved with Kuba Matejkowski in his foundry and produced my first bronze sculptures. During the late 80’s I had a few exhibitions in Poland. In 1993, I was granted a scholarship at the Polish-Egyptian Mission of Islamic Art and Architecture in Cairo. I spent two years in that great and magical city which had a very strong influence on my concept of art, changing my scale of importance i.e. not technique but perfection and classical material became most important. Egyptians have a distance to reality, which agrees with my approach to art. My sculptures are my thoughts. I try to express them as best I can. Some are understood, others not |
